About Dr. Jong-Ho Lee
Ophthalmologist, Doctor of Medicine, founder of BGSS Eye Clinic, and one of the first generation of refractive surgeons in Korea.
Dr. Jong-Ho Lee founded BalGeunSeSang — "Bright World" — Eye Clinic in 1997 with a simple conviction: that every patient's eyes deserve the care a doctor would give his own family. The Busan clinic opened that year, followed by the Seoul clinic in 2000, and together they became one of Korea's most experienced centers for vision correction.
From the start, Dr. Lee sought out the world's innovators. He introduced LASEK to Korea through academic exchange with Dr. Camellin, its Italian developer. In 2000 he co-performed presbyopia surgeries with Dr. Schachar, founder of scleral presbyopia surgery, laying the groundwork for presbyopia correction in Korea. In 2002 he brought ICL lens implantation surgery to Korean patients.
In 2006 he was selected as Korea's first ICL instructor, training fellow surgeons in the procedure. Seeking greater stability for astigmatism correction, he developed the vertical placement technique for toric ICLs — V-Toric ICL — together with Dr. Je-Myung Lee, work later published in PLOS ONE and recognized with best paper and poster awards.
Today Dr. Lee continues to operate, teach and research. He leads BGSS's work as Korea's first ophthalmology clinic designated by the Ministry of Health and Welfare as an Advanced Regenerative Medicine Institution, and serves on the EVO ICL Asia-Pacific Regional Advisory Board.
